Jai-alai Cancha Dedication / Grand Opening Set for April 19, 2008 at 10am

The St. Pete Jai-Alai Cancha will have it's Dedication / Grand Opening Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 10am. The "Merry Festival" atmosphere will feature Mayor Rick Baker, several City of St. Petersburg council members and employees who helped make this court possible.

Also on the agenda are airplane flyovers, Spanish dancers, live music, food and beverage. St. Pete Parks Director Cliff Footlick and Ringside announcer M. Mark Beiro will MC the event. Several sports celebrities and former jai-alai players are expected to attend. Presentations, ribbon cutting and the first pelota throw by the Mayor will also take place.

Drawings for several prizes and gift certificates by our sponsors will be held.

Several hundred people are expected to attend with press releases to be released by the City of St. Petersburg and the NJAA. Major networks like CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, ESPN will be invited. Several local TV and radio stations will be invited as well as major newspapers like USA Today, St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Tribune will be notified of the event.

Immediately after the ceremonies and the ribbon cutting, the court will be open for play. The live entertainment may go on all day. The actual ceremony will last about 30-45 minutes. More details will be released in the coming weeks.

The Edgemoor Neighborhood Association, who helped get our court built, will also be part of the activities with a possible Fire Department show, Police Department K-9 show, kids activities/rides and more.

All jai-alai fans are urged to attend.
