Miami Jai-alai approved for $87 million renovation

04/28/11 Facing a possible closure, Miami Jai-alai has secured a loan for $87M for the storied 82 year old building. Complete renovations will include 1000 slot machines, a restaurant and bar area, improvements to the jai-alai facility. There will be 1,500 parking spaces added, cleaning up the area.

The big catch may be the “People Mover”, now under construction, to transport people from the airport (one mile away) to Miami Jai-alai. This is key. Do you realize how many people go thru that airport – awaiting connection flights or international flights? Millions and millions. With proper promotion, a shuttle could take you there in two minutes and back. With entertainment, slots, jai-alai, and black-jack in 3 ˝ years (it will happen), this will be a big-time destination place. There is no real competition nearby either.

There will be 600 construction jobs created and 300 permanent positions. This is the best news I have heard in quite awhile! The project will be completed by the end of 2011. This is plenty of money to do this right, and what it needed to be successful. The stock of FL Gaming has gone up today big time!
